Legal
Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and [Legal entity name] ("Planny", "we", "us"). They govern your access to and use of the Planny mobile and web app, the website at getplanny.app, and any related services (together, the "Service"). They are written in plain English on purpose. If something is unclear, email support@getplanny.app.
By creating an account, signing in, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who can use Planny
To use Planny you must be:
- At least 13 years old (or 16 in the EU/EEA, where local law sets a higher age of digital consent), and
- Capable of entering into a legally binding contract under the laws of your country.
Planny is a personal budgeting tool. It is not a bank, a financial advisor, an accountant, or a payment processor.
2. Your account
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your sign‑in credentials safe.
- Everything that happens under your account.
- Telling us promptly at security@getplanny.app if you think your account has been compromised.
If you sign in with Google or Apple, you authorise us to receive your email address and an opaque user ID from that provider. You can disconnect at any time by deleting your account from inside the app.
You may have only one personal account. Don't create accounts using someone else's identity, share your account, or sell or transfer it.
3. The Service
Planny lets you log expenses and income, set budgets by paycheck or by month, share a "Space" with people you invite, see trends, and export your data. The Service evolves: we may add, change, or remove features. Where a change materially reduces what you can do, we will tell you in advance where reasonably possible.
The Service is provided as is and as available. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error‑free, or that it will meet your specific financial goals.
4. Not financial advice
Planny is a budgeting tool, not financial advice. Information and calculations shown in the app — including projected balances, recommended split percentages, savings goals, and category suggestions — are for personal informational purposes only. They are based on the data you enter and on simple maths. They are not a recommendation, opinion, or promise of any financial outcome. For decisions involving taxes, debt, investments, insurance, mortgages, or large purchases, consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction. We are not responsible for financial decisions you make based on what you see in the app.
You acknowledge that the numbers in your account are only as accurate as the data you put in. If you log expenses incorrectly, the calculations will be wrong, and that's on you.
5. Your data and content
5.1 You own your content
Everything you log in Planny — expenses, notes, category names, Space names, attachments — is your content. We do not claim ownership of it.
5.2 Licence you grant us
So we can run the Service, you grant us a worldwide, royalty‑free, non‑exclusive licence to host, store, copy, transmit, display, back up, and process your content only as necessary to provide and improve the Service for you and the people you've invited to your Spaces. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backups (see the Privacy Policy for retention windows).
5.3 What we don't do with your content
We do not sell it, rent it, share it with advertisers, or send it to any AI/LLM provider for model training. See the Privacy Policy for the full list.
5.4 Export and deletion
You can export your data as CSV or open it as a spreadsheet from Settings at any time. You can delete your account from Settings; deletion is permanent.
6. Joint Spaces and user content
Planny lets you invite others to a shared "Space". Anything you write inside a Space (expense names, notes, category names) is visible to the other members of that Space.
You agree that you will not post, share, or use the Service to transmit content that:
- Is unlawful, fraudulent, defamatory, harassing, threatening, or hateful.
- Sexualises, exploits, or endangers minors.
- Infringes another person's intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights.
- Promotes violence or self‑harm.
- Contains malware, phishing links, or attempts to compromise the Service or other users.
- Is intentionally misleading about another user's finances.
- Attempts to evade rate limits, scrape data, or reverse‑engineer the Service.
We may remove content, suspend or terminate accounts, and report illegal activity to law enforcement when we judge it appropriate. There is a report channel at abuse@getplanny.app and a "Report content or behaviour" link inside Space settings.
You are solely responsible for the content you create, including in shared Spaces, and for any consequences of posting it.
7. Acceptable use
In addition to §6, you agree not to:
- Use the Service for anything illegal in your jurisdiction.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service without our written permission (responsible security disclosures to security@getplanny.app are welcome).
- Interfere with the Service, overload it, or use bots, scripts, or scrapers to access it (other than the standard sync our app performs on your behalf).
- Decompile, reverse‑engineer, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except where this is permitted by mandatory local law.
- Resell, rent, sublicense, or build a competing product on top of the Service without our written permission.
- Remove or alter our trademarks, logos, or copyright notices.
8. Subscriptions, payments, and refunds
Planny may offer paid plans. If you subscribe:
- Pricing is shown before purchase. Subscriptions auto‑renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Payments through the Apple App Store are managed by Apple and governed by Apple's standard EULA and refund policy.
- Where local law gives you a withdrawal right (for example, the EU 14‑day right of withdrawal for digital services), it applies. By starting to use a paid feature you may be waiving the withdrawal right under the digital‑content exception — we will note this at the time of purchase.
- We may change prices for new billing periods with at least 30 days' notice.
9. Intellectual property
The Service — the software, design, brand, logos, and content we create — is owned by Planny and its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non‑exclusive, non‑transferable, revocable licence to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. No other rights are granted by implication or otherwise.
If you send us feedback, ideas, or suggestions, you agree that we may use them without obligation to you.
10. Third‑party services
The Service uses third‑party providers (Apple, Google for sign‑in; Supabase for storage; PostHog and Vercel for analytics and hosting). Your use of those providers' offerings is governed by their own terms. We do not control them and are not responsible for their actions.
11. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non‑infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted operation.
We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements, that calculations will produce a particular financial outcome, or that data will be free from loss or corruption — although we take reasonable steps to back it up (see the Privacy Policy).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties; in those places these exclusions may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Planny and its officers, employees, agents, and licensors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or financial outcomes, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service.
Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD 50 (or the local‑currency equivalent).
This section does not limit liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation).
13. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold Planny harmless from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable lawyers' fees) arising out of (a) your use of the Service in breach of these Terms, (b) content you post — particularly inside joint Spaces — that infringes a third party's rights or violates the law, or (c) your violation of any applicable law.
14. Termination
You can stop using Planny and delete your account at any time from Settings. We can suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if your account is dormant for an extended period, or if we are required to by law. Where reasonable, we will warn you first.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including §5.2 (the licence to back‑ups for the retention window), §7 (acceptable use), §9–§13 (IP, disclaimers, liability), and §15 (governing law) — survive.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [country / state where the Planny legal entity is registered], without regard to its conflict‑of‑laws rules. Disputes will be brought exclusively before the courts of that jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer‑protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your country of residence — in which case those rights are preserved.
If you are an EU consumer, you may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
16. Apple‑specific terms (iOS app)
The following applies if you obtained Planny through the Apple App Store:
- These Terms are between you and Planny only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content.
- The licence granted in §9 is limited to use on Apple‑branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the Service.
- In the unlikely event the Service fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the Service.
- Planny — not Apple — is responsible for handling claims relating to the Service, including product‑liability claims, claims that the Service fails to conform to legal requirements, and claims under consumer‑protection or similar legislation.
- Planny — not Apple — is responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging any third‑party intellectual‑property infringement claim relating to the Service.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo, and are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third‑party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon acceptance Apple has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce them against you.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Planny evolves. When we do we will update the "Last updated" date at the top, and for material changes give you at least 30 days' notice in‑app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after the changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.
18. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any policies referenced inside the app, are the entire agreement between you and Planny about the Service.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce a right, that's not a waiver of that right.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stay in effect.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a corporate transaction.
- Notices to us should go to legal@getplanny.app.
